NYPD persuades potential jumper to come down from Kosciuszko Bridge

A would-be suicide jumper held police at bay on the Kosciuszko Bridge for nearly 90 minutes Sunday before he was talked down.

The unidentified man climbed onto the edge of the bridge’s eastbound lanes shortly after 9 a.m. and clung perilously over the edge while NYPD negotiators tried to talk him down — finally pulling him to safety about 10:30 a.m., authorities said.

An NYPD chopper buzzed overhead as police spoke to the man — who appears to be holding a beer in photos from the scene — as he hanged from the Queens-bound side of the span.

Police did not say why the man, seen wearing a white T-shirt and camouflage pants, was threatening to jump.

He was later transported to Elmhurst Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

Police shut down all but one east-bound lane on the bridge — though Brooklyn-bound traffic was not disrupted.
