Trump’s personal diplomacy with Iran shocks allies as Graham details fiery phone call and escalating pressure on Tehran
Lindsey Graham stated that Donald Trump is directly negotiating with Iranian representatives. According to the senator, the head of the White House spoke with the Iranians by phone a few days ago, and the conversation became quite tense.
“So tense that Trump loudly told Iran what would happen if they kept playing games. He actually lost his voice. I wouldn’t want to be the Iranian on the other end of that conversation,” Graham said.
The Republican admitted that the U.S. president’s personal involvement in the negotiations came as a surprise to him.
Meanwhile, Oleh Pendzin, executive director of the Economic Discussion Club, said on Channel 24 that Donald Trump has found himself in a difficult situation after launching an operation against Iran together with Israel about a month and a half ago. According to the expert, the conflict will directly affect the domestic political situation and Trump personally, especially ahead of the midterm elections scheduled for autumn 2026.
What is the situation with U.S.–Iran negotiations?
Donald Trump stated that Iran agreed to refrain from developing nuclear weapons for 20 years and to transfer its stockpiles of enriched uranium to the United States. In addition, the American leader expressed readiness to extend the previously agreed two-week ceasefire with Iran.
On April 15, Trump said that the war with Iran was “very close to ending,” but not yet fully over. He assured that he does not plan to resume hostilities but will continue to pressure Iran.
The United States and Iran are also continuing diplomatic negotiations to resolve the conflict in the Middle East, although no details about a face-to-face meeting between delegations have been disclosed yet.
