Southern California trio charged in alleged conspiracy to steal $1 million Lego shipment diverted from Texas-to-California freight route
Three men from Southern California are accused of participating in the theft of approximately $1 million worth of Lego products, as stated in a press release from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.
The men — identified as 37-year-old Jose Lopez, 25-year-old Ruben Lopez Flores and 35-year-old Freddy Hernandez Polinar — were apprehended on Wednesday after deputies were alerted to suspicious vehicles in Mojave, California. Deputies said when they arrived, two box trucks were seen fleeing the area.
Deputies were able to conduct traffic stops on both trucks. During a search, they discovered a large amount of Lego products and also found two freight trailers in the surrounding area.
The sheriff’s office says an investigation revealed the trailers were stolen while in transit from Fort Worth, Texas, to Moreno Valley, California. It was estimated that the Lego items were worth around $1 million.
All three of the suspects are charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, cargo theft and conspiracy.
