FBI launches cross-state operation after alleged Molotov cocktail attack on Sam Altman residence sparks fears of targeted violence against AI leaders
A man accused of hurling a Molotov cocktail at the residence of Sam Altman, the founder of OpenAI, in San Francisco, was against artificial intelligence, as per court documents. The documents further revealed that the man had a list of other executives from AI tech companies.
Authorities allege that Daniel Moreno-Gama threw the cocktail around 4 a.m. Friday. The device set an exterior gate at Altman’s home on fire before Moreno-Gama fled on foot, police said. Less than an hour after setting Altman’s gate on fire, Moreno-Gama allegedly went to OpenAI’s headquarters and threatened to burn the building down.
FBI Director Kash Patel announced on X that the bureau had conducted an operation in Texas in connection to the attack.

Moreno-Gama has been charged with possession of an unregistered firearm and damage and destruction of property by means of explosives.
When he was arrested on Friday, officials found a document on him that shared his opposing views on "Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the executives of various AI companies,” court documents say.
