Fire erupts at US consulate in Dubai after “Shahed” Iranian drone strike
A drone attack caused a “limited” fire near the US consulate in Dubai, the latest American diplomatic facility in the Persian Gulf to be targeted during the war with Iran.
The fire did not cause any injuries and has been extinguished, the Dubai Media Office said on Tuesday.
Iran’s state-run Nour News released footage of what it said was the moment an Iranian drone had struck the US consulate in Dubai. The 30-second video shows plumes of smoke following a blast, the exact location of which was unclear.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters in Washington he had been informed that a drone had struck an adjacent parking lot and set off a fire. All personnel were accounted for, he said.
The strike was carried out less than 24 hours after the US Embassy in Riyadh was attacked by a pair of drones, as Iran’s attacks on the Gulf remain unabated while being pounded by Israel and the US.
The US Embassy in Kuwait said on Tuesday it would be closed until further notice and canceled all regular and emergency consular appointments. It had earlier warned of a continued threat of missile and UAV attacks over the Gulf state, with reports of smoke seen rising from the neighborhood that houses the embassy.
