Actor Tom Cruise did not want to ask Donald Trump for a favor, which is why a space film starring him will not be made, Page Six reported, citing sources.

Back in 2020, Deadline reported that Cruise was planning to shoot a movie in outer space with Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman, involving SpaceX and NASA.

Five years later, an insider revealed why the project has not yet been realized.

“As I understand it, to make the film they would have needed coordination with NASA, and allegedly Tom Cruise did not want to ask Donald Trump for a favor. They would have needed permission from the federal government,” the source said, noting that “Tom didn’t want to ask for political reasons.”

The actor has largely stayed out of politics over the years, and the source added that he did not want to alienate fans.

A NASA chief appointed by Trump had previously expressed support for Cruise’s space project, even posting on social media that it could potentially be filmed aboard the International Space Station.

However, both the NASA official’s remarks and his tweet are now outdated. Sources in the space industry told Page Six that there have been no further discussions about the film within the space agency.
