A woman died this week following an apparent medical emergency at Disneyland after boarding the Haunted Mansion ride, according to a spokesperson for the city of Anaheim, California.

“This appears to be a tragic medical incident, and our thoughts are with the family,” the spokesperson stated.

Anaheim Fire and Rescue was called to Disneyland around 6:30 p.m. on Monday after receiving a report of an unresponsive woman in her 60s. Upon arrival, Disneyland security had already begun CPR, the spokesperson noted.

The Orange County Sheriff-Coroner Office will determine the cause of death. It did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday.

The Haunted Mansion ride is slow-moving and has "mildly frightening scenes" but is safe for kids, Disney says on its website. It features ghosts, but the ghosts are friendly, the theme park assures visitors.

There was no indication the ride had an operational issue, and it has reopened, the Anaheim spokesperson said.
