Man ventures onto coastal cliff, gets absolutely owned by massive wave

Wild footage shows a beachgoer in Santa Cruz being swept off a coastal cliff by an epic wave.

The dramatic moment the water crashed down on the man at Bonny Doon Beach Tuesday was shared to Facebook by the County of Santa Cruz.

The footage shows the victim helplessly tumble down the rock and into the rough seas.

He was rescued by state park workers, the county said.

“Waves can sneak up on you, as this Bonny Doon beachgoer recently discovered,” read part of the post’s caption, while also warning “never turn your back on the ocean!”

The area surf has been active. Swells on Thursday were expected to reach up to 25 feet at west-facing beaches, the county said, citing the National Weather Service.
